Superintendent's Letter

Garth Harries, Superintendent of SchoolsFrom Garth Harries, Superintendent of Schools

Dear Families,

Choosing a school for your child is an important decision and we at New Haven Public Schools are committed to helping you learn about your options as well as supporting you in making an informed decision.
With New Haven Public Schools, the possibilities for your child’s future are endless. We have a wide array of excellent and unique schools that all share one common goal – to help your child rise to success. Our School Choice program offers a portfolio of exciting magnet, neighborhood and charter choices, with themes like engineering and science, literacy and the arts, international communication, real world math, health and public safety.

Through our School Change Initiative, New Haven Public Schools is dedicated to being one of the best District’s in the nation by investing in our students, staff and families. Our schools engage students in hands-on projects by teaching them critical thinking skills that prepare them for success in college, career and life.

In August, get ready for the Kindergarten Canvass, when teams of school and community volunteers hit the streets to welcome new kindergarteners into our district. Also be sure to check out Parent University, a parent support network that offers free workshops and access to resources. It’s never too early to start thinking about college, so learn about the New Haven Promise college scholarship program.

The first and most important step is to read this guide and learn about your options. I encourage you to contact your schools of interest as well as the School Choice and Enrollment Office. We look forward to welcoming you in the New Haven Public Schools family.
