Mayor's Welcome

Toni Harp, Mayor, City of New HavenFrom Toni Harp, Mayor, City of New Haven

To the Parents, Families, and
Guardians of New Haven Public School Students,

In the Mayor’s Office, at the Board of Education, and throughout New Haven Public Schools it is our intention to provide ample educational opportunities for all students enrolled in city schools and in doing so, provide you with options and alternatives for your children. We want students to maximize the chance they have to learn, develop, and excel while enrolled in our school system.

The following school choice guide was prepared for you to spell out all available opportunities so enrolling your child, whether for the first time in kindergarten, at a neighborhood school, or at one of the city’s magnet schools, will be simple and straightforward.

The foundation for New Haven’s School Change initiative supports the full engagement of students so they prosper throughout their K-12 enrollment. This guide will help you match your preferences – and those of your child – with available schools and programs.

We want to help each student and each family be excited about school and all there is to read and learn about at school. We strive to maintain a high level of enthusiasm so your students will too – we think your child should have a rich, rewarding experience while enrolled in New Haven Public Schools.

We think this school choice guide and a user-friendly enrollment process will help match students and their families with the most suitable school and program for them. At the same time, we’re always eager for feedback to continuously improve our services. Please let us know how we can be helpful.

There are no admission requirements, tests or prerequisites for our students. We serve special education students, English Language learners, talented and gifted students and everyone else who comes through the lottery to our schools.
